This week the focus of our grammar activities was capitalization. We reviewed the numerous categories of words that get capital letters.
The students were riveted by the three chapters we read in our class novel, The Mystery of the Stolen World Cup Trophy. They also enjoyed completing some Dictionary Digs to learn new vocabulary from the book.

In social studies, we finished reading our text about the Midwest region, worked in our map skills workbook, and completed the final assignment with partners.

As the students finish their diary projects, they get to bind them into a book. They had no idea what the contraption I’d brought into the room was, and their guesses were hilarious – a typewriter, a pencil sharpener, even a pasta maker!! When they got to use it, they were thrilled!

We also made progress in our study of songwriting. The students learned about the parts of a song. They also read lyrics and listened to songs so they could identify the theme, the chorus, the verses, and the bridge. The most popular songs we heard were “She’s in Love with the Boy” and “Don’t Laugh at Me.”

Thursday was Mrs. Rodgers’s play – The Crayons Trick-or-Treat. We loved seeing the show, writing our fan mail to the cast, and even passing out programs!

Today we took our first trip to Harris-Hillman to help with their Halloween celebration. Our students set up and manned stations through which their students rotated. They helped with painting projects, a photo booth, trick or treating, a sensory station and more. I am so proud of how kind, helpful, and flexible they were.

When we got back, we enjoyed a special pizza lunch and some sweet treats from our room parents.

Thank you to Layne for hosting a prospective student on Monday.

In Morning Meeting this week, we had lots of fun with greetings, games and share topics – some Halloween-themed. My class really enjoyed working together to play Beat the Clock and Boom, Clap, Snatch.
