This week in social studies, we kicked off our study of the regions of the U.S. We are starting with our home region, the Southeast. Everyone labeled a map of the states, which they will have to learn, and added the capital cities, which are extra credit. We also read the first chapter of our text, and we learned a little about the Appalachian Mountains, the Mississippi River and more.
We read two chapters this week in Charlotte’s Web, and the kids had fun adding suggestions to our own class webs.
We also learned three morphemes and began talking about adverbs.
The students also learned a few more vocabulary words from our novel. They begged to look them up in the dictionary instead of using our slideshow.
We spent much of our time writing, revising, typing, and illustrating our Special Place project. If you came to campus for conferences, you got to see them on display.
In Morning Meetings, we had fun with the lumberjack handshake and games of Reverse Charades, Clap, Snap, Stomp! and Elbow to Elbow.
