First Day!

The 4th graders had a great first day at school! Everyone was excited to find their locker, to see their friends, and to explore their classroom.

On their desks, student found their binders and a word search with all their names to occupy then until everyone else arrived.

We kicked off our day with a Morning Meeting. Each child greeted another with a firm handshake and eye contact. We all shared one fun thing about our summer break, and we did a group activity called the nonverbal birthday lineup. Without talking they figured out how to get in order by their birthdays from January to December.

We switched classes so both groups could spend time with their other teacher. I read aloud A Letter from Your Teacher to both groups which expresses my wishes for us this year.

We also enjoyed a brief recess with all the 4th graders and an assembly during which Mr. Stabler introduced new faculty and students.

Back in the classroom, we played a little game and the students made some guesses about me – where I’m from, my favorite color and what I love about teaching. They voted with their color-coded cards.

We look forward to a great day tomorrow!
